The Appeal
The E-Type was conceived as a lightweight, aerodynamic successor to the D-Type, honed for success at Le Mans. The fact that this never fully materialised hasn’t stopped many owners from evolving their cars into the racer Jaguar always intended.
This high-specification 1965 FHC was given the race car treatment in the mid-1990s while in Germany. It was stripped, lightened, and fitted with a 3.8L straight-six engine, making it a potent performer that has been used sparingly by its successive keepers.
Since its completion, it has spent time in Sweden, where it was acquired by the current owner in 2018. He later moved it to Finland, where its FIA approval was renewed in 2021. We are told that the car is street-legal in Finland.
The XK engine is said to have been fully rebuilt in 2024 by Vintage Motors of Finland and has covered just 500 km since. The vendor describes the car as running without issue and ready to use.
History and Paperwork
- VIN number confirms the car as a 4.2L Series 1 LHD FHC built in 1965
- Rebuilt in Germany in the early 1990s as an FIA-approved historic race car
- Imported from Sweden by the current owner in 2018
- Registered in Finland in 2019
- FIA approval renewed in 2021
- A quantity of spare parts included in the sale
- VIN number: 1E31457
- Various FIA and related paperwork confirming authenticity, as shown
The Condition
- Silver metallic paintwork with twin central black stripes, racing roundels, and decals
- Described by the seller as a race car rather than a show car, presenting accordingly
- Some scrapes and marks to the exterior, consistent with competition use
- New windscreen recently fitted
- Stripped interior with a full roll bar, bucket seats, and four-point race harnesses
- The car is equipped with a quick-release steering wheel
- The roll bar affects ease of entry and exit from the cabin
- The car is street-legal, but of course quite noisy and harsh
This de-bumpered fixed-head coupe apes the uncluttered style of the E1A, the slippery Malcolm Sayer sports car prototype that begat the E-Type. It is in good condition following its 1990s restoration, but is clearly intended to be a working race car. As such, it sports a few scuffs and marks from its circuit outings.
The Mechanics
- 3,781cc Jaguar XK inline-six engine
- Triple Weber twin-choke carburettors
- Four-speed manual transmission
- Engine fully rebuilt in 2024 by Vintage Motors in Finland
- Approximately 500 km covered since the rebuild
- The vendor reports the car is ready to race, with everything in working order
- No overheating issues reported by the vendor
This car left the factory with the later 4.2L XK unit, but is now equipped with the more sweet-revving 3.8L unit. That engine was fully rebuilt by specialist Vintage Motors in 2024 and is said to have covered only 500 km since. It features 10:5 compression, RBCD441 race cams and Westwood cylinder pipes.
We are told that the car starts and runs well, with no overheating issues.

Seller1. Checked the years: FIA is renewed in 2021, not 2020. And Engine totally rebuilt Feb-March 2025, not 2024. 2. Pls add: The car is equipped with a quick-release steering wheel. 3. Instead of this "We are told it is noisy in street use" pls for example this: "The car is street-legal, but of course quite noisy and harsh." 4. Did you include also some video clips? How many pics? Otherwise good.
