The Appeal
The Lotus Elan is the road-going embodiment of Colin Chapman's "simplify and add lightness" formula, combining a lightweight steel backbone chassis with fibreglass bodywork and the Ford-derived Lotus Twin Cam engine. The result was a beautifully balanced sports car with super-direct handling, eager acceleration, and a rifle-bolt-like gear shift that's arguably yet to be bettered. The Elan directly inspired Mazda's MX-5 as perhaps the greatest two-seater roadster of all time.
This 1968 Coupé is the coveted S4 variant, the final evolution of the Elan design, featuring improved interior trim, dashboard fresh-air vents, and the distinctive flared wheel arches to accommodate wider wheels.

Our Elan stands out for its comprehensive restoration completed in 2017, having been rescued from long-term storage where it had remained since 1974. The meticulous restoration process saw virtually every component either replaced or refurbished. With only approximately 500 miles covered since the restoration's completion, this Elan offers the opportunity to acquire a freshly restored classic with the provenance of having had just three former registered keepers from new.
