The Appeal
Back in the '60s, Mercedes-Benz were undeniably building some of the finest cars in the world. That celebrated lineage was dominated by their SL Class. The Sport-Leicht was quickly gaining a firm reputation, and the second iteration became one of the most celebrated cars of its era; the W113 'Pagoda'.
With solid build quality at its core and a very distinctive concave roof, these cars were cleverly imbued with personality at their core - curvaceous shapes, fishbowl headlights and - if you got the best spec - a capable, throaty 2.8-litre six-cylinder that made for a smooth, comfortable tourer.
This particular example was originally supplied to the US market and has since been imported to Europe, where it currently holds Belgian registration with all duties and taxes paid. It's ready and waiting to go, and is accompanied by a Belgian technical inspection valid all the way to September 2030.
This honest example, picked out in a very attractive Metallic Red, carries a few gentle signs of age-commensurate wear, but nothing overly intrusive from what we can discern. We have little doubt it'll take pride of place in the lucky buyer's garage. image00001.jpeg3.64 MB

Beautifully designed by the hands of Geiger, Barényi and Bracq, it's hard to understate the Pagoda's Hollywood looks. Everything here is subtle yet striking, with gentle sweeping curves, big fishbowl lights and that oh-so-important concave roof. It's one of the most distinctive roadsters of the age, and this one is a fabulous car.
There are some gentle chips and marks here and there, and some soft patina to the brightwork, but it's a wholly original vehicle, with little in the way of intrusive wear and a very handsome set of colour-matched wheels.
Internally, the deco-centric dash carries gentle patina, but that minimalistic brightwork and distinctive instrument array is all present and correct. The driver's seat carries light wear, while the carpets look in fine condition.image00067.jpeg4.11 MB
The Mechanics
2,800cc inline 6-cylinder engine
3-speed automatic transmission
Car has recently received big engine service
The vendor reports the car drives, shifts and brakes as it should
The M130 straight-six has become synonymous with this era of Mercedes-Benz, and it's for a fine reason. Boasting a throaty engine note and perky performance, the rugged straight-six isn't going to break any speed records but is more than capable of exhilarating the lucky driver.
This one has been recently revised, and is reportedly driving, shifting and braking as it should - with the vendor reporting that the car is ready and waiting to hit the road with its lucky new keeper.
