1969 Jaguar E-Type Series II FHC LHD

Highlights

  • Honest older restoration car in Green with cream leather interior
  • Dry stored and unused in hot, dry climate between 1975 and 2021
  • Bodyshell retains original factory spot welds on the sills
  • Smart interior with historic retrim
  • Recommissioned and registered on UK plates in 2026
  • Voluntary MOT valid to July 2027 with no advisories

The Appeal

This smart Green E-Type has led an interesting life. Built in early 1969, the 848th Series 2 LHD FHC was off the line and despatched abroad, where it was used until 1975, when it was placed into storage in a dry, hot climate. It was removed from storage and transported to the UK in 2021 and then recommissioned by the specialist vendor earlier this year.
While it has been repainted and retrimmed over the years, aside from work to the floor pans, the body is believed to be largely original, even retaining the factory sill spot welds.
The car presents well, with cosmetic age to the paintwork and interior, which could be improved if deemed necessary. We're told that it starts and runs well but has been little used in recent years so would benefit from some checks. A useful voluntary MOT, valid until July 2027, adds reassurance and transparency for the buyer.
The vendor says:
"The engine starts and runs, and the gearbox appears to operate correctly. However, the car has completed limited miles over the past five years, so no definitive claims can be made regarding its driving performance over longer distances. The vehicle benefits from a valid MOT until July 2027, following recommissioning work in 2026, and is considered an excellent basis for continued use, with further recommissioning and development left to the next owner if desired.
"Following recommissioning work completed in 2026, this E-Type has returned to the road. It represents a great opportunity and an excellent basis for continued sympathetic preservation and enjoyment."

History and Paperwork

  • First registered overseas in 1969
  • Imported from Bahrain to the UK in 2021, stored and later UK registered in 2026
  • Understood to have been taken off the road in approximately 1975
  • Spent much of its life stored in a hot, generally dry climate prior to importation
  • Stored in Kent following arrival in the UK before a programme of inspection, recommissioning and registration
  • Odometer displays 81 km, however this does not represent the car's true mileage
  • Voluntary MOT valid until 2nd July 2027 with no advisories
  • Single UK keeper since registration
  • VIN: 1R25848

Believed to have been off the road since the mid-1970s, this early Series 2 spent many years in Bahrain before arriving in the UK in 2021. Following further storage and a programme of inspection and recommissioning, it was UK registered in 2026 and now benefits from a current advisory-free MOT.
During this programme, attention was given to a number of age-related items identified following the vehicle's prolonged period off the road. Work included inspection, servicing and rectification, where required, across the engine, fuel, cooling, braking, steering, suspension and electrical systems to return the Jaguar to running and driving condition.
As with many classics that have spent an extended period off the road, prospective buyers should satisfy themselves as to any further inspection, servicing or recommissioning they consider appropriate before regular road use.

The Condition

  • Finished in Green
  • Historically repainted, although the date is unknown
  • Paintwork presents well with age-related chips, scuffs and marks visible around the car
  • Bodywork presents well, with original factory spot welds visible along the sills
  • Historic repairs are visible, including two repairs to the floorpans
  • Painted wire wheels with spare
  • Cream leather interior with green piping
  • Light brown carpets showing signs of use
  • Interior appears to have been retrimmed historically, although the date is unknown
  • Period Blaupunkt stereo fitted (untested)
The car presents as an honest older restoration rather than a freshly restored example. The paintwork remains good overall, although closer inspection reveals the expected chips, marks and imperfections associated with an older repaint.
Panel fit is good, with visible factory spot welds remain along the sills, supporting the car's originality. Two historic repairs are evident within the floorpans, believed to have resulted from corrosion during an earlier period of storage.
Inside, the interior presents well overall and remains sympathetic to the character of the car. Some areas appear to have been retrimmed during its life, although no supporting documentation is available to confirm this.

The Mechanics

  • 4,235cc Jaguar XK straight-six engine
  • Triple SU carburettors
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • Engine starts and runs
  • Gearbox operating as expected
  • Programme of inspection and recommissioning prior to UK registration
  • Current advisory-free MOT
  • Limited mileage covered during recent years
  • Engine starts and runs and gearbox operate correctly, as highlighted in attached video
Power comes from Jaguar's renowned 4.2-litre XK straight-six, breathing through triple SU carburettors and driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox.
The engine starts and runs, with the gearbox selecting gears during our inspection. Prior to UK registration, the car underwent a programme of inspection and light recommissioning before being returned to the road, subsequently achieving a current advisory-free MOT.
Having spent many years in storage, the Jaguar has covered only limited mileage in recent years. Whilst it is running and driving, prospective buyers should regard the car as a rolling restoration and should satisfy themselves as to any further inspection, servicing or recommissioning they consider appropriate before undertaking regular or long-distance use.

Summary

An honest, running and driving Series 2 E-Type offering considerable scope for sympathetic improvement over time.
