The Appeal
The Triumph TR6 is widely regarded as the last of the traditional British sports cars, pairing a muscular 2.5-litre straight-six with separate chassis construction for classic open-top motoring. With 119 mph on tap and a 0–60 time of 8.2 seconds, it remains one of the most rewarding classics to drive, and with the roof down, that inline-six provides a soundtrack few rivals can match.
This example was supplied new by Triumph dealer F. Mitchell Ltd of Nottingham and has since undergone a comprehensive restoration. The body and chassis were stripped to bare metal and fully treated with WaxOyl before being refinished in Red, replacing the original Saffron. The engine was rebuilt by Lockstitch Engines and fitted with a Bosch fuel system, electronic ignition, and a telescopic damper conversion, while also being converted to run on unleaded fuel. The interior was completely retrimmed in Tan, and the vendor states it presents very well. While glossy and eminently presentable, the vendor does note that the paintwork could benefit from a better finish.
In more recent years, the car has been maintained by marque specialist TR Bitz in Warrington, who carried out a service approximately 2,000 miles ago alongside a number of upgrades and a complete underside WaxOyl treatment. A substantial history file accompanies the car, including invoices, photographic evidence of the restoration, and a British Heritage Trust Certificate.
