The Appeal
The SP was Jensen’s halo car, a high-performance variant of the Interceptor that was marketed as an entirely different model. These cars got a high compression version of the 440CI 7.2L Chrysler ‘MOPAR’ V8 allied to three two-barrel carburettors to deliver close to 400bhp, which was a massive hike over the standard Interceptor.
Just 232 were built and this 1973 ‘131 Series’ car was number 27 off the line. It is one of only two supplied new to Australia, where it was used as Motor magazine’s test car. It arrived back on these shores earlier this year and is in very good, factory-standard condition.
Finished in what appears to be Flag Red over a black interior, the car presents well across the interior and exterior. All the little factory details that set the SP apart, like the louvred bonnet and blue Jensen badges, remain intact. The history file shows a large quantity of invoices from its time in Australia, including parts supplied by specialist ReJen.
The SP is one of the rarest and fastest of Britain’s GTs. This one’s interesting provenance and highly preserved condition mark it out.
