The Appeal
This very nice TR6 is proof of just how good these cars can be with a sensible and knowledgeable approach to upgrades. It benefits from a number of mechanical and comfort improvements that explain why the current keeper was recently able to undertake a two month tour of 10 European countries in comfort and without issue.
The car began life as an export market LHD model but was returned to the UK in 2003. At that point it was extensively and professionally restored including a RHD conversion. It was also usefully improved over factory standard, starting with a full engine rebuild with performance upgrades and is fed by SU carburettors. The gearbox, overdrive and clutch hydraulics were renewed 5,000 miles ago. The brakes, suspension and steering have all been renewed, and the body has been restored — the vendor reports there is no rot on either the body or chassis. Inside, new carpets and door cards were fitted over the winter, complementing MX5 cloth seats and a walnut dashboard.
What sets this TR6 apart is the sheer extent of mechanical renewal it has undergone. Its capabilities were recently put to the test on a long-distance tour from Morecambe through Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany, where the vendor reports it ran like clockwork. Freshly serviced and with a clean voluntary MOT valid until March 2027, this TR6 appears ready for its next adventure.
The vendor says:
“Great to drive long distances, so good this April and May drove from Morecambe to Harwich to Holland to Denmark to Sweden To Norway To Sweden to Finland To Estonia To Latvia to Lithuania to Poland to Germany to Holland to Harwich and back. Ran like clockwork , what a car! Now complete service done, all fluids and fiters with plugs changed. Ready for next challenge.”
