1979 Bimota SB3

Highlights

  • One of only 402 Bimota SB3 motorcycles built between 1979-1982
  • Rare example with just 2.1 km on the odometer
  • One of fewer than 50 hand-assembled by Suzuki Germany with full factory warranty
  • Complete with original owner's manual, toolkit, keys, and period-correct Michelin tyres
  • Preserved in entirely original, unrestored condition
  • From a carefully curated classic motorcycle collection that's being sold over the coming days

The Appeal

The Bimota SB3 represents a fascinating chapter in motorcycle history, combining Italian design excellence with Japanese engineering reliability. This particular example, number 27 of the 402 produced, is especially notable as one of fewer than 50 that were hand-assembled by Suzuki Germany rather than being sold in kit form. What makes this motorcycle remarkable is its time-capsule condition with just 2.1 km on the odometer, having been carefully preserved in a climate-controlled environment since new.
This SB3 offers a rare opportunity to own what is effectively a brand-new 1979 superbike, complete with its original factory silver metallic livery, red frame, and gold cast-aluminium wheels. For collectors of rare motorcycles, it's bound to be a very seductive prospect.

History and Paperwork

  • Located in Portugal, complete with German Title but not road registered or TÜV inspected
  • Number 27 of the 402 Bimota SB3 motorcycles built between 1979-1982
  • One of fewer than 50 examples hand-assembled and sold by Suzuki Germany as the "Suzuki Bimota SB3-D"
  • Comes with original German title listing Suzuki as the manufacturer
  • Includes original owner's manual, toolkit, and keys
  • Accompanied by original advertising brochures from Suzuki Germany, the original spare parts catalogue, and the rare model-specific dealer press release folder
  • Brake systems were serviced in 2016 for technical inspection and again in 2022
  • The bike has been properly prepared for long-term storage without fuel in the tank and carburetors

The Condition

  • Presented in entirely original and unrestored condition throughout
  • Original silver metallic livery with red and red/black pinstriping appears in very good order
  • Red-painted frame shows no damage or repairs
  • Original red seat pad appears unworn, consistent with the delivery mileage
  • Gold painted cast-aluminium 18-inch wheels look smart
  • Still fitted with its original period-correct M45/M48 Michelin tyres
  • Original yellow zinc plating still present on all three Brembo brake discs/rotors
  • All rubber parts appear in good condition
  • Dials and instrumentation show no signs of wear or fading

  • The vendor states the bike starts up and runs properly, even from cold
