The Appeal
This 1987 90 pickup appears to have led quite a life. Until 2010 it was a factory 2.5L diesel-powered Defender. In that year Land Rover specialist SD Services executed an expensive makeover, key ingredients of which were a 3.5L engine and 5spd gearbox donated from a Range Rover, a 2in lift kit, Discovery seats and a stainless exhaust.
The result is the rather imposing Defender you see in the photos. Finished in understated white, its array of fittings including lights, deep dish wheels and BF Goodrich AT tyres definitely dial up the visual drama. It straddles the line neatly between practical workhorse and style icon. The 2010 work included suspension, chassis and other work and it has largely held up, which is confirmed by the advisory-free MOT. There are a few cosmetic points to note, which the buyer could attend to or work on as they use it.
The history file records all the work. We are told that in recent years it has only required routine servicing.
The vendor says:
“We sadly no longer have the need or space for our Land Rover pick up, so the time has come for it to move to a new home and give someone else the fun and utility which our family have enjoyed. It is easy to drive (including power steering) and useful for many jobs. We have never had any issues with it. A great purchase for anyone who has a passion for classic Land Rovers.”
