The Appeal
The XJ-S’s renewed success at Le Mans in 1988 had been a long time coming. To mark the occasion, Jaguar turned to partner TWR to ignite on the road an association that had proved so successful on the track. Just 100 XJR-S Le Mans Celebration cars were built, each featuring the standard 5.3-litre V12 but with an attractive Peter Stevens body kit, 15-inch Speedline alloys, plush Connolly Dove Grey leather cabin, Bilstein dampers and sharper steering.
Those first 100 cars are amongst the rarest and most desirable XJ-S variants, and here we have one. It is car number 58, first registered in 1988, and showing a mere 48,326 miles on its six-digit odometer. The condition is impressive, the bespoke Tungsten Grey paintwork in highly preserved order, and the leather and walnut cabin betraying few signs of its 38 years.
The car has been sparingly used in recent years. There is a run of servicing stamps to 2020 and 46,631 miles. In 2025, it went to specialist Clydesdale Classics for brake work and attention to the distributor and other areas - shown in the photos - and then in 2026, prior to sale to Swallow Jaguar for a major service. It has also just received four new BF Goodrich tyres. The MOT runs to June 2026.
With just 100 built and even fewer surviving, the arrival of any XJR-S for sale is noteworthy. This must be one of the best preserved available.
