The Appeal
In the 1980s nothing this side of a Rolls-Royce could deliver quite what Jaguar’s Series 3 XJ12 offered. Pillow-soft ride, smooth V12 and a firm commitment to wood and leather features all explain why the Pininfarina-titivated final XJ12 lived on long after the XJ40 arrived.
Just 1,159 Daimler Double Sixes were built. These cars got even better quality leather and wood trim plus a host of extra features including even more chromework. This 1991 car is one of the last built, handsomely finished in dark blue metallic with a walnut and dove grey leather cabin.
Until 2014 this car lived in Japan, whose salt-free roads and high maintenance standard are reflected in the car’s physical condition and extensive maintenance history. Since arriving in the UK it has had just three keepers. They have kept up the regime of sparing use and regular maintenance. Recent invoices indicate regular servicing. In 2020 the car received a reconditioning steering box and in 2022, alongside servicing, the rear calipers, discs, pads and shock absorbers were replaced. The MOT runs to February 2026 with no structural or mechanical advisories.
With Jaguar unlikely to build a car quite like this one again, here’s a chance to discover just why the V12 XJ is so well-regarded.
