The Appeal

As the last car developed under the eagle-eyed tutelage of Il Commendatore, the Testarossa-influenced 348 has a special place in the Maranello lineage. But, as aficionados know, it is the 92-onwards cars that you really want because they benefit from the revised chassis dynamics and improved reliability that addressed early criticism of these mid-engined Dino-powered marvels.

This 348 ‘Traversale Spider’ is one of the desirable later cars, as can be seen from the body colour lower panels. The service history is really impressive and shows a regular run of servicing to 40,638 miles. It is now on 40,650 miles following a few years of recent storage. The 348 was one of the last Ferraris to feature the ‘Dino’ engine, a powerplant named after Enzo’s ill-fated son and which can trace its lineage back to the firm’s late 50s race cars. Few engines are as characterful and sonorous.

Critical to any classic Ferrari purchase is service history. This car’s maintenance file reads like a ‘who’s who’ of Ferrari specialists, some of which we’ve named above. The stamped service book shows 16 entries from 1993 to 2021 when the car went into long-term storage. The last service was at 40,638 miles, with barely a handful of miles having been covered since. The cam belt was replaced by Emblem in 2019 at 40,415 miles.
