The Appeal
The cancellation of the F-Type replacement project, combined with new Ford money in the early 1990s gave Jaguar the chance to make the long-lived XJS better. The result was the ‘facelift’ car with updated styling, a 4L version of the reliable AJ6 straight six engine and, crucially for modern enthusiasts, galvanised bodies.
Before the firm introduced the fill facelift model, it briefly offered a car that mixed existing and new styling. These chrome-trimmed cars are popular with buyers and this British Racing Green car is one of them, first registered in 1993, it spent its life on Japan’s salt-free road before arriving back here in 2015. It has had just three registered keepers since.
The eagle-eyed will spot that the car presents well in the usual XJS check areas such as floors, arches and screen bases. It has been sparingly used since a £1,300 service in mid-2024. The car will require a fresh MOT before hitting the road. Once done, you get a seriously smooth grand tourer that is understandably garnering increasing enthusiast interest.
