The Appeal
To celebrate 40 years of the Mini and the same anniversary of John Cooper’s Formula One World Championship success, Rover created the extremely limited John Cooper Limited Edition 40 (JCLE40). Just 301 were built, featuring Brookland Green paintwork, an Old English White roof, and a luxury Grenadine Red extended leather interior.
Since they are amongst the most collectable of classic Minis, factory cars rarely come to market. The vendor tells us that this car is a genuine LE40 featuring the many upgrades applied to these cars. The attention to detail is impressive, taking in the plush leather cabin, Mini 40 dials and engine-turned dashboard.
We are told that the car was restored in 2021, including fitting height-adjustable suspension. Detailed below is a long list of maintenance undertaken in recent years, including since the vendor acquired the car in late 2023.

The car has covered a low mileage for its year and presents well in the photos. The current MOT supports that impression, showing no structural advisories and running to late October 2026. A very tidy and interesting alternative to more common classic Coopers.
The vendor says:
"The car is amazing! It drives wonderfully, the classic 'wheel at each corner' Issigonis Mini handling, whilst not powerful by modern standards, it's very nippy and the engine has lovely throttle response."

"Finished in Brooklands Racing Green with an Old English White roof, door mirrors and matching bonnet stripes, with the factory extended wheelarches and twin spotlamps, plus 13 inch Sportpack Minilite-style alloy wheels with Cooper centre caps. The car is in good condition. The previous owner carried out work including; replacing the front wings, the bodywork has been fully stripped, resprayed and fitted with replacement decals, and areas of rust have been removed, new chrome bumpers and headlight surrounds. The underbody was coated and sealed post-restoration.
I have replaced the grill and surround (original slightly dented one included if wanted.) Some but not all paperwork as well as some restroration photos available. There are small, light scratches on one of the front wings and rear right wheel arch. Finished in full Grenadine Red leather including pleated seats, door uinserts, and dashboard. Leather all-black steering wheel with airbag, machine-turned aluminium facia, traditional cream dials with chrome surrounds, grenadine red leather gearstick gator, black leather gear knob and handbrake grip, original black carpets.
The interior is in good original condition with some small scratches on the passenger front seat. A Fletcher DTM centre-exit exhaust has been fitted, a JVC CD-stereo, and an immobiliser bypass with starter button. The car starts and runs perfectly."
