The Appeal
The 550 Maranello was a firm, resounding return to form. Where the Ferrari 400 had, perhaps, been a little too ‘grand tourer,’ and the 456 a little too mainstream, the 550 revisited the rarified Daytona template in style and in ethos to deliver one of the greatest sporting grand tourers in the firm’s illustrious history.
These were cars for the cognoscenti and just 3,083 were built. While they looked back to the Daytona for design inspiration, they were thoroughly modern and powered by a high performance of the recently introduced F133 5.5L V12 that delivered 485bhp. Naturally, all cars were manuals because these luxurious GTs were, first and foremost, sports cars.
This 2001 Argento Nurburgring car is one of the nicest we’ve seen in a long while. It has clearly been cherished and sparingly used, the odometer showing just 44,474 kms, which is under 28,000 miles. The paintwork, bodywork and interior support this, showing few marks or signs of use. This is really a collector-grade car.
The same is true of the history book. The car appears to have begun its life in Italy, before arriving in Guernsey in 2014. There is a run of stamps supporting the low mileage from main dealers and well-regarded marque specialists up to just under 40,000 kms. The cambelt was changed at the last service in 2022 5,000km ago and then again in February 2026. The car has barely covered any distance since this latest work, which was undertaken by an ex DK Engineering technician. All four tyres were replaced in August 2025.
The 550 is highly rated by collectors and this well specified, well-maintained car stands out.

Pininfarina’s 550 was born in an era of retro design, but it cleverly manages to look back, at the Daytona, without being slavishly beholden to the past. It is a crisp and fresh design that continues to look good today, helped by being born in an area when simplicity trumped design flourish.
This car is classically finished in Argento Nurburgring over dark blue, a combination that suits the car’s GT theme. Inside and out it is in very good condition with few indications of use, which supports the low displayed mileage. The car is pleasingly original including the Becker sound system.
The Mechanics
- F133 5.5L 485bhp V12 engine
- 6spd manual gearbox
- Well maintained by main dealers and specialists
- Cambelt change and service 5,000 kms ago in 2022
- Gearbox service, PAS and coolant flush and a/c service at same time
- Further cambelt change in February 2026 with barely any miles since
The recently introduced 5.5L F133 V12 was upgraded for the 550, in the process returning a configuration made famous by the car’s style progenitor, the Daytona. As befits the car’s more performance orientation compared to the 456, every 550 was equipped with a six speed manual box, arranged and accessed via the classic ‘gated’ shifter with its distinctive ‘click clack.’
This very low mileage 550 has always been maintained by main dealers and well-regarded specialists. The last service was 5,000 kms ago in 2022 when the car also received a new cambelt. The gearbox was also serviced and the PAS and coolant fluids flushed and changed. The a/c was also serviced. The cambelt was changed again in February 2026, since when the car has barely covered any miles.
