The Appeal
If a Lotus Elise is just a little too common for you, step forward the elegantly-named Strathcarron SC-5A. Just six of these featherweight, bike-engined marvels were built, and this is believed to be car number six.
The world of bespoke, low-volume sports cars is a sharp-edged and bumpy one, as Lord Strathcarron and his investors quickly discovered at the turn of the new Millennium. Changes to SVA regulations put paid to their plans for a bike-engined lightweight sports car, but not before they’d commissioned blue-chip specialists like Reynard Racing and Prodrive to develop and engineer their vision. Built from carbon kevlar and weighing just 550kg, the road-going SC-5A featured a 125bhp Triumph 4cyl, 4 stroke 1.2L engine mated to a six speed sequential gearbox. Reviewers were awe-struck, rating the car’s agility, engagement and performance.
This factory standard 2001 SC-5A is appropriately painted in stand-out orange metallic and has covered less than 6,000 miles from new. We’re told it has been recently serviced and in August 2025 received four new Goodyear tyres.
The condition is impressive, likely thanks to the sparing use and ongoing dry storage. This car is a four-wheeled talking point and guaranteed to delight drivers. With only five other cars built, miss this and you may not get another chance to experience a truly brilliant British sports car. The car will be sold with a fresh 12 months MOT.
The vendor says:
“The car is almost 25 years old, but looks like new. Chassis 6 of what I believe 6 and two others are SORN.”
