Description
About this 1967 MGB GT Mk 1
My Vintage Car offers this 1967 MG B GT, the last year of Mk I production—an English classic deeply refurbished in our workshop for trouble-free motoring: it’s roadworthy, mechanically sound, with a favourable MOT, and has very convincing on-road manners.
Uncommon specification on the French market: original French-market car, sold new in early 1968 via the official BMC France importer.
Original European specification—original left-hand drive (LHD, not a conversion), metric instrumentation. Precisely this documented French configuration is what sets this car apart from the many MGB GTs imported from the UK in right-hand drive or converted late in their lives.
This isn’t a cosmetic restoration. It’s been mechanically brought up to standard, with the intention that it can be driven immediately—and for the long haul.
MECHANICS AND RELIABILITY
The engine starts perfectly cold and hot, runs sweetly, pulls cleanly and shows no abnormal noises:
- Even compression between 10 and 11 bar across all 4 cylinders
- Completely rebuilt carburettors, correctly synchronized and set
- Fully overhauled ignition
- Cooling system fully reworked
- Reliable clutch setup
The car drives really well—no juddering, with excellent flexibility.
RECENT WORKS — NEW PARTS (non-exhaustive list)
Braking:
- New front and rear brake hoses, front calipers and pads, new rear wheel cylinders, complete bleed.
Front suspension and steering:
- All front suspension bushes, front anti-roll bar, new steering joints/ track rod ends, new rack bellows.
- Alignment carried out—0. 0 m toe slip at MOT.
Engine and ancillaries:
- New radiator, water pump, all cooling hoses, new fuel pump, starter, coil, ignition wiring loom, distributor cap, rotor arm, points, condenser, spark plugs, new air filter.
- Engine oil change + oil filter.
Clutch:
- New slave and master cylinder, new hydraulic hose.
TRANSMISSION
Synchronized 4-speed manual gearbox with crisp shifts. Overdrive fitted as standard but not currently functional (potential bonus if put back into service, with no impact on the displayed price).
BODYWORK AND CHASSIS
Overall presentation is very good. Deep blue paint (Mineral Blue), glossy with a lovely patina. A few visible and honestly acknowledged imperfections: bodywork marks and old touch-ups are visible. There’s some surface corrosion too, consistent with the vehicle’s age (lower door areas and the boot).
Nothing is hidden—photos show both the good and the not-so-good. Complete transparency.
INTERIOR
Original, usable but to be refreshed: headlining, front seat covers and seat foams, and a complete carpet kit to be planned. Morris Minor steering wheel fitted (original MGB steering wheel to be refitted for purists).
ITEMS NOT FUNCTIONAL AT THE MOMENT
Overdrive, rev counter, horn. These can be dealt with without any modification to the asking price.
MOT
Favourable MOT, valid until 30/ 01/ 2028. Toe slip 0. 0 m. No major faults found.
