The Appeal

One of the most iconic cars in history, and easily one of the most endearing cars ever built, the Mini continues to power on as a staple of the classic car world. Squat, tight-handling compact cars, built for post-war Britain - that managed to exceed just about every expectation.

This example, originally based in Italy, comes to us following a thorough restoration. The vendor believes the car to have only had one previous owner, with its engine rebuilt and rebored to 1275cc. The result is a simply exceptional, tidily presented little car.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built by Morris Motors in 1969 at their Cowley factory
  • The car was built for the European market with left hand drive
  • First registered in Italy in February 1969
  • Here, the car appears to have only had one owner
  • The car soon found itself at a dealership and in 2016 was purchased by the vendor
  • The vendor undertook a considerable restoration
  • This reportedly included:
    • A bare metal repaint
    • Full anti-corrosion treatment
    • Full restoration and retrim
    • Reboring of engine to 1275cc
    • Gearbox rebuild
  • As a result, the car is now in fabulous stead
  • Only 1,770 miles covered since restoration
  • The car underwent its last scheduled maintenance in July 2023
  • The comes complete with:
    • 1969 registration booklet
    • Haynes manual
    • Original Mini Mk2 booklet
    • Toolkit
    • Fire extinguisher
    • Spare wheel

The Interior

  • Impressive retrimmed interior
  • Upholstery completed by a local manufacturer
  • Carpets, roof, insulation and doors completed by Newton Commercial
  • Restored to a high standard in a nicely colour-matched beige
  • Seats are in excellent order with zero rips and tears
  • Aftermarket seatbelts have been installed
  • The black door cards are in similarly fine order
  • Dashboard is in excellent order and as-built
  • All instruments - though there aren’t many - are clean and well-presented
  • Carpet has some small stains under the driver’s seat but otherwise are excellent
  • Round the back, the boot is clean and well-kept

The Exterior

  • Repainted in original Old English White livery
  • Fully restored with anti-corrosion treatment and repairs
  • Beautifully presented throughout with no dents, dings or unusual gaps
  • The car shows no signs of blistering or bubbling
  • Paintwork is very well-kept throughout
  • Chromework looks excellent with only gentle wear to the original branding
  • Glasswork and lenses all present very well indeed
  • The car is sitting on a shiny set of steel wheels
  • Shod in a full set of Falken tyres
  • Underneath, the car has been thoroughly treated
  • From what we can see, it’s positively free of corrosion

The Mechanics

  • Converted from 850cc A-series to a 1275cc A-Series
  • Lesser-spotted automatic transmission
  • Fully restored to a high standard
  • Engine looks in great condition
  • Underwent its scheduled maintenance in July 2023
  • Car is reportedly starting first time and driving perfectly
  • We’ve no reports or evidence of leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke

Summary

With its attractive period colour scheme and sympathetic modification, this Mini is eminently usable and excellent from roof to tyres. We’ve no doubt it’ll attract plenty of attention.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
