The Appeal
The W460 was the first generation of the now-legendary G-Wagon - and set a lot of the precedents for Mercedes-Benz' offroad offering. This was originally intended as a military vehicle before the car entered the upper market, and by 1980 had already become world renowned by its stint as the ever-legendary Popemobile. If rock-solid build quality was award-worthy, the W460 was undeniably a strong contender for gold.
This particular example, finished in a rare beige-grey metallic is practically like an off-roader bus. That long wheelbase offers you enough seating for nine people - so this voluminous is practically purpose-built for carting around your family or a five-a-side football team. Packed with a very capable straight-six engine and a four-speed automatic transmission, this G-Class is still just as capable of clambering up hills as ever it was, aided by its high and low-range gearing and locking differentials.
