A Lotus Excel is a true driver’s car, lightweight body, excellent galvanised chassis and an engine designed to rev and deliver high performance.
They look good too, and unlike many others of Colin Chapman’s cars, driver comfort has also been considered in the stylish and sharp looking Excel.
Totally renovated in 2016 to a very high standard this is a car that is guaranteed to turn heads wherever it goes, looking superb and being a fairly rare sight on the road these days, especially as there were only 40 of these special celebration models to leave the factory.

Purchased by the current Lotus enthusiast owner back in 2007 the car underwent a total renovation by Lotus specialists back in 2016, with a complete engine out re-spray and many new parts.
A change in circumstances has now brought this very nice example to auction, which is sure to get the attention of both Lotus and motoring enthusiasts alike.
Nice original tan leather interior
The interior of this Lotus has been nicely renovated during 2016, with new carpets, headlining and a thorough reconnalising of all the leather seats and surfaces.
The steering wheel and seats have a nicely aged patina to them with the rest of the interior being comfortable with good supportive seats. There’s also some wear evident on the wooden gear lever and the seat handles and the odd place in the cabin, but overall it presents very well and everything is reported to work as it should do.
The wood facia and dashboard are in very nice condition with no cracks or damage anywhere to be seen.
Very nice overall condition
Good condition wheels with good tyres
Finished in its original colour of dark green metallic.
Fully stripped down and prepared for a full body re-spray in its original colour the paintwork presents very well indeed with only a few inevitable stone-chips at the front detracting from its overall excellent finish and presentation.
All the tyres are good, and the nice Lotus 15” alloy wheels need a bit of work in places and there’s certainly no cracking fibreglass or damage to the bodywork anywhere to be found. Eagle-eyed bidders will note that a wheel cap is missing from the rear nearside alloy - this has since been replace since the time of photography.
The pop-up headlights are a great feature of the car and happily they open and close without issue and all rubber window and door seals also all seem to be in great condition too.
Major mechanical re-build with countless new parts
New Stainless steel exhaust system
New clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder
New cambelt and tensioner
New radiator, cooling fans and engine bay coolant hoses
Last C Service 2019 with few miles covered since
4 new tyres
A very thorough overhaul of the car’s mechanics and running gear was undertaken during its comprehensive restoration in 2016 with many new parts being fitted as required to bring the car up to its present day condition.
Since its renovation there have been very few miles put on the car, which on an earlier MOT had a mileage recorded of over 93,000, so it has been assumed that the mileage shown on the odometer should be more like 136,000, rather than just 36,000.
The car is reported to drive very nicely with a considerable turn of speed and the exquisite handling and balance that you would expect from a Lotus.
A very nicely sorted and ready to go rare edition of the Lotus Excel, one of the great British sports cars, with the benefit of a recent comprehensive professional restoration and a very relevant private number plate.

About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.
£0 to £10,000
£10,000 to £50,000

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours. You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
What are Commission bids?
A commission bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.
