1997 Maserati Ghibli GT AM336

  • Italian coupe with quintessentially 90s styling
  • Impressive interior with extensive Alcantara leather and a wood trim
  • 2.8L AM 574 Twin-turbo V6 with 4-speed automatic transmission
  • In current ownership since August 2010

The Appeal

Introduced in 1992, the new Maserati Ghibli reignited the name of a legendary coupe - and somewhat fiercely reinvented it from top to tyres. With sharp, distinctly 90s wedge styling and a pair of top-notch twin-turbo V6 engines available, these were exceptional driver’s cars, first and foremost, with exceptional interior styling and performance capable of impressing even the most discerning enthusiast.

The car's final development, the Ghibli GT, was the most refined of the popular model, coming in straight after Ferrari's takeover of Maserati - with modifications to the suspension and transmission offering a more reliable, capable car, and the last hurrah for the name until 2013.

This example comes to us following an impressive twelve-year ownership, with an advisory-free MOT until December and that legendary twin-turbo V6 still providing a sonorous soundtrack.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built in 1997
  • First registered in December 1997
  • The DVLA records 4 previous owners
  • The vendor understands that the first owner was a company license
  • Meanwhile, the second was the individual who drove the car
  • The third owner was based in Edinburgh and kept a substantial paperwork file
  • Current ownership began in August 2010
  • The car currently indicates 73,431 miles
  • The car is complete with:
    • Original leather document holder
    • Original service record book
    • Original manuals and handbooks
    • An impressive selection of invoices dating back to the car’s first ownership
    • V5c document
    • Two sets of keys
  • The vehicle is currently carrying a cherished registration that will be removed on sale

The Interior

  • Highly luxurious interior in Alcantara leather
  • Leather inserts have been replaced as and when required
  • Impressive, cossetting high-backed seats
  • Seats are in excellent condition with no clear rips or tears
  • The door cards are beautifully kept with only light marks
  • Dashboard is very clean and well-kept with original instruments
  • We note a small amount of leather shrinkage to the dash but it’s very light
  • Wood trims have been kept well-maintained
  • The car’s steering wheel has been changed into a Momo wheel from a Ghibli Cup
  • Hands-Free Stereo system, features a new amp and header unit
  • The adjustable suspension isn’t working, so the relevant switch is non-functional
  • The traditional Maserati clock is in good working order
  • Carpets and headlining look in fine condition throughout
  • The boot is excellent, with good solid floors and only minor wear to the carpets

The Exterior

  • Impressive sharp styling designed by Gandini
  • The car is carrying its original Tundra Verde (dark green)
  • The car is in fair condition
  • Corrosion rectified in the wheel arches, sills and some other areas a few years ago
  • Unfortunately, since then the A-pillar has developed visibly deep corrosion
  • The paintwork carries swirling and brushing but is in good order for its age
  • The glasswork and lenses are in fine condition with no chips or cracks
  • The branding is all present and correct with no significant faults
  • The car is sat on its original alloys
  • These are in good order, though one is slightly scuffed
  • The car is wearing a set of Michelin tyres
  • Underneath, the chassis is in solid order with only light wear

The Mechanics

  • 2.8L AM 574 Twin-turbo V6 powerplant
  • 4-speed automatic transmission
  • The adjustable suspension requires either new contacts or shocks
  • As a result, it’s currently not adjustable
  • However, the vendor does note this doesn’t affect the car’s day-to-day
  • The car was recently serviced with new belts, plugs, fluids and filters
  • Engine bay is in good order with the iconic red cover proudly on display
  • We’ve no reports of leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke throughout
  • The car is reportedly running well with no issues
  • The alarm sounder is in need of replacing

With that incredible twin-turbo, a fabulous interior and a distinctly 90s aesthetic, it’s little wonder the Ghibli is so well-respected. This example is a great opportunity to get behind a true modern classic.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
