The Appeal
The second-generation Elise was born out of necessity - to meet stricter crash test rules - but it allowed Lotus to make it even better. Sharper looks, improved dynamics, and a more reliable, but equally revvy 1.8L Toyota engine were the key changes.
The entry level 135S is arguably all the S2 you need. It fits Chapman’s ethos of less is more and delivers arguably one of the greatest four-wheeled experiences of modern times. For that reason, many have either been thrashed or tracked, but not this one. In the hands of the current, retired motor engineering keeper since 2019, it has covered a mere 27,000 miles and has clearly been cherished and treated well.
Factory records confirm that this car is the only Aspen White over Red leather Elise S built and is one of just 135 built for the UK market with the 2008 model year improvements. It looks fantastic, the impression enhanced by a set of recently refurbished black six-spoke alloys, purposeful Exige rear spoiler and useful Exige roof. Inside the red leather is nicely preserved and there are useful upgrades like a digital dash and carbon fibre trim features. We’ve provided a full list of the improvements below.
The history file is extensive and shows regular maintenance. The car has covered few miles since the last service, brake fluid change and replacement of the discs and pads. It comes to market with an advisory-free MOT to June 2026.
This is a really attractive, well-cared-for Elise S with the added bonus of very low miles.
The vendor says:
“I’m a retired motorsport engineer, late 60s, and I’ve owned this car for 6 years. It was my Covid project, and I like to think it’s now one of the best out there. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, and I hope the next owner loves it like I do. These days, I’m struggling to get in and out, and the missus prefers other cars, so I guess my time with the car is coming to an end. As a driving hit, it’s awesome. I wanted it to be a road car, not a track day car, so I have set it up accordingly. We’ve got some amazing roads here in South Wales, and you’d need a good Ferrari to cover the ground quicker. Never used on track, although I took part in a spirited parade around Monza a couple of years ago, it’s been so much fun.”
