It very rare indeed to find an XJS in the condition this car is in. Its a 1987 Jaguar XJS HE V12 Auto with full service history, and the recipient of a Knowles-Wilkins Engineering (KWE) rebuild costing over £20, 000 just 5000 miles ago. In fact there are invoices totalling over £28000 with the car. Its simply stunning!
This XJS has 3 previous owners and has a service book with 15 Jaguar main dealer stamps to 80, 810 miles, and then the KWE certificated rebuild at 89656 miles. For anyone who isn’t aware of KWE their website is - details above The car has a current MOT to 18th April 2019, and is being used daily on a 100 mile round trip, so mileage will rise.
The XJS was produced from 1975 to 1996 and is a car that is now rising in value after years of low prices. As the successor to the E-type, the XJS was more aerodynamic and a superb grand tourer, capable of 143mph and 0-60 in 7. 6 seconds. In 1981 the HE engine version of the car was produced with better fuel economy and an increase in bhp to 295. In 1982, the new V12 XJS HE won first and second at the RAC Tourist Trophy race at Silverstone.
Our car is finished in metallic silver birch, with a biscuit coloured interior. It has substantial use of wood veneer in the fascia, centre console and steering wheel. Unusually for a V12 Jaguar of this era the air-conditioning, which was standard fitment with these cars, is in full working order, as are all the instruments and switchgear. The electric door mirrors on both sides are working correctly too. The interior is unmarked and is like being in a new car. Its a great place to be!
The bodywork on the car is flawless, and the chromework excellent. The wheels were refurbed at the time of rebuild and are shod with good tyres.
This Jaguar starts instantly and settles to a very smooth tickover with good oil pressure and low running temperature. Given some throttle on the open road, the KJ-S as a tourer is hard to beat. Its silken V12 and excellent automatic gearbox make driving in traffic, or needing to pass slower vehicle a simple task. The car pulls rapidly through each gear, and moves up and down the gears almost imperceptibly.
As to the KWE work, the car featured on their website described as a nice example which came in for KWE suspension/ brakes/ steering, power enhancement, rust protection and other upgrades and repairs. This is all documented and accompanied by 116 photos of the various stages of enhancement.
