Description
Daimler Sovereign – Stunning/ Matching Numbers
The Daimler Sovereign produced by Jaguar was the “luxury alternative” for those looking for comfort rather than outright speed from their 420 saloon. Blessed with the famous straight six engine used in the E-type but with twin carbs mated to a 3-speed automatic gearbox the Sovereign sold well and was very much the “Gentleman’s Express” of its day.
Our Sovereign was the subject of a full photographic restoration during 2003/ 4 at Mark Cooper Engineering after a period of time in storage. Finished in stunning Jaguar Dark Blue with original red interior and chrome wire wheels today the car is in lovely condition with the restoration, after 15 years, still presenting well with just the odd mark commensurate with use.
Mechanically the original engine has been reconditioned by VSE Ltd (including hardened valve seats), the gear box overhauled by Hardy Engineering and the radio upgraded by the Vintage Wireless Company
On the road the Daimler drives extremely well - the whisper quiet straight six, smooth auto gearbox and all the refurbished components make this car a delight. The interior is like stepping back in time - it looks & smells the part with no splits in the seats, excellent head lining/ carpets, lovely mellow wood veneers and a dashboard with all switched and dials working. The car has covered just 74, 000 miles from new and 2, 500 miles since the 2004 restoration
The huge history folder includes original log book, the original service book with eight service stamps from the supplying dealership (Stratstone’s London) up to early 1970’s, MOT’s since 1977, all invoices since 1978 and lots of pictures from the restoration. .
Equally at home on long distance road trips, Goodwood Revival car park or simply the local classic car show we recommend early viewing in order to fully appreciate this remarkable example of a bygone age
