Description
Triumph entered 3 modified cars called “TR3S” into the 1959 Le Mans, the cars were similar appearance to a standard TR3A but differed in some fairly significant ways. Firstly the outer panels were fiberglass, the body was 6 inches longer with extra length in the engine bay and the chassis was strengthened by adding an additional “U” section underneath. They were fitted with the now legendary Sabrina twin cam engine with twin choke SU carb’s. They had disc brakes all round with special ducted air cooing for the differential.
This car was built to a very high standard by its owner to the same specification as the original TR3S’s with lengthened body/ chassis and fiberglass outer body panels. It’s fitted with a race tested TR4 engine built by Revington TR, fed by twin Webbers driving a Stag spec gearbox with A type overdrive. It’s fitted with fast road/ race Revington suspension with anti-roll bars front and rear. Following the original TR3S’s it’s got all round disc brakes on dual circuit hydraulics. It’s shod with road legal competition tyres Avon CR6ZZ on silver 72 spoke wire wheels. The interior is slightly higher spec than the original with Revington Bucket seats and John Skinners carpets. The cars registration XHP 940 is a mirror image of the original yellow nosed TR3S 940 XHP that ran in the 1959 Lemans. It weighs in at just over in at 800Kg.
The car was the subject of a major feature in the Feb March 2012 issue of Triumph World and its construction was covered in several editions of the TR Registers club magazine TR Action.
Its Alfa Twin cam (Sabrina Tribute Engine) matching gearbox, exhaust system and SU DU6 twin choke carburettors are available separately.
