Description
Rare British built DW19 variant (the DW was a right hand drive DS19 with a manual gearbox built only in Buckinghamshire at a time when all French built examples of the DS19 had the lethargic semi-automatic gearbox).
KBY401C was subject to a full bare metal, nut and bolt restoration in 2008 when it was fitted with a DS23 engine (for greater power and easier parts supply), five speed gearbox (for more relaxed cruising), DS23 suspension and front brakes (no more difficult adjustments) and converted to run on LHM fluid (so no more corrosive leaks and high maintenance).
This is to my mind this is the perfect DS specification; the character of the quirky old style dashboard, frog eye headlamps and Marchal driving lamps along with some attractive features unique to the Slough built cars (such as the three circular rear lights, protruding rear indicators and the Citroen badge on the bonnet) along with the practical benefits of the largest of the four engine sizes, the five speed gearbox and the later suspension and brakes.
In excellent condition both cosmetically and mechanically, this DS is painted 'rouge cornaline' with a black roof, Webasto sunroof and black leather Reutter seats (the same seats were fitted to the Aston Martin DB5). 'Rouge cornaline' is a colour only seen on 1960's Déesses and usually paired with a black roof and black leather seats.
Fitted with a modern CD player hidden behind the original period radio facia (hinged at the bottom to reveal the CD player). The speakers are also hidden and the quality of the sound system is superb. The Marchal driving lamps are the rare long body style which blend into the shape of the bonnet.
