Austin Seven Opal (1938) – Show Winning Condition
Founded in 1905 by Herbert Austin, the company’s fortune was effectively made by the ‘Seven’. Practical & reliable, sales of the models boomed right through to World War II, wiping out the competition for Light Car dominance. The popular Opal first arrived in 1934 inheriting its mechanical makeup from the Ruby but was a two seater tourer with useful storage and boasted a sporty low chassis with an exposed spare wheel.
This particular Opal is simply the nicest that Milestone Classics have ever brought to market. Around ten years ago the car was the subject of a full body off restoration with the chassis shot-blasted and repainted in black. The body shell was treated to a high quality respray in original blue/ black, chrome refurbished where necessary and the upholstery, carpets and all weather gear renewed – she is simply stunning.
Benefiting from a four speed gear box, three bearing crankshaft and high compression pistons power was increased to 16. 5bhp making these later seven’s the most usable of all the models and the Pearl, in our opinion, is the prettiest of the whole range.
The history file contains the V5C registration certificate, the RF60A registration book, a 1937 Austin Service Journal, images, Vintage and Sports Car Services invoices for the engine rebuild and other mechanical work, sundry paperwork and publications of the Austin 7 Club.
The car is an absolute pleasure to drive and is ready for the very lucky new owner to use and enjoy. We do not believe you will not find a nicer example on the market...
