The Pontiac Firebird is an American automobile that was built by Pontiac from the 1967 to 2002 model years. Designed as a pony car to compete with the Ford Mustang and Mercury Cougar, it was introduced on February 23, 1967, simultaneous with GM's Chevrolet Camaro. The name Firebird was also previously used by GM for the General Motors Firebird 1950s and early 1960s concept cars. The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is a coupe with 2 doors and a front mounted powerplant which delivers its power to the rear wheels. The 8 cylinder, overhead valve turbocharged engine has two valves per cylinder and a displacement of 4. 9 liters. This unit provides power and torque figures of 200 hp and 339 lb ft torque. The engine transfers its power through to the wheels by means of a 3 speed automatic gearbox. It is claimed to achieve a top speed of 118 mph. In the final year of the second generation Firebirds 1981, Trans Am still used the same engines as it had in the previous model year, with the only change being the addition of a new electronic carburetor system.
1981 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo. As far as we know the 4. 9 turbocharged engine and automatic transmission to the car are original. The engine does turn freely by hand. The car isn't currently running. This vehicle hasn't been on the road since the late 1990's. It does have four wheel disc brakes. Has power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. Retains the original blue California plate. It looks like the car was originally blue with a black interior. The car does have some rust. Trunk lid would benefit from being replaced. Plenty of good used trunk lids out there or can purchase a new one.
Majority of the interior is there. The parts that are missing would be purchased new anyways for restoration purposes. The factory gauges are all there and the dash on the vehicle has been unmolested. Has the factory center console. This vehicle is equipped with power windows. All of the glass on the car is there and in good shape. Has the original steering wheel. California car with a clean title. These cars are going up in value and would be a great project and investment.
