FIA's Group B regulations were introduced in 1982 and ceased in 1986. The limited restrictions on engine power output combined with advanced lightweight body technology provided ground for an unprecedented competition between automobile manufacturers of the day. Opel recruited Cosworth and Irmscher to develop the Group B Manta '400' coupe with a redesigned cam-in-head competition engine and an aerodynamically enhanced body. Homologation was achieved soon after Opel built 245 street legal Manta 400s with a 2. 3 lt cam-in-head motor producing initially 144 bhp via fuel injection (Phase 1) and later 230 bhp via 48 DCOE carburation (Phase 2). Following the 400's success, Opel produced a limited run of 477 Manta 'i200's with a 2. 0 lt cam-in-head engine of 134 bhp output with an Irmscher Rothmans livery body.
The Group B Manta i200 race car offered here was prepared by foremost Manta rally experts Tsagaras Motorsports. The accident-free body was stripped to bare metal and rebuilt to lightweight specifications with numerous structural reinforcements and an FIA-approved 8-link cage. The engine was developed by Tsagaras Motorsports via a custom made big valve ported cylinder head, high compression pistons, lightweight rods, competition ignition and 48 DCOE carbureters to produce 200 bhp. The steering and suspension were upgraded to Manta 400 specifications and the brakes fitted bear 4-pot calipers at the front and 2-pot calipers in the rear with cabin-mounted manual bias. Once complete, it was certified by FIA, MoT'd and tested in Megara race track (video available). It is now offered fully prepared for any track or hillclimb event.
