Description
An exceptional TR6, subject to a complete ‘nut and bolt’ rebuild in 2001 by CTM Engineering. Exceptional because it has been properly restored, unlike so many, with a perfect body and chassis, perfect panel gaps and everything else replaced or rebuilt.
Like many, this ’74 TR6 started life destined for the North American market. It came back home in 1990 and then began a 10 year restoration by CTM starting with a bare chassis that was reconditioned and strengthened. The body was stripped down to bare metal, repaired where necessary, converted to RHD and repainted in dark green.
The engine was completely rebuilt to 150BHP specification and fitted with triple DCOE Webers. The gearbox, overdrive and differential have all been completely refurbished.
Similarly, the steering, suspension and brakes have been completely rebuilt with new parts including all the usual modifications such as solid rack mounts, Koni telescopic damper and polyurethane bushes.
The body was built up with new glass, wiring looms, trim and the interior trimmed in leather and carpeted in wool. Finally, a new mohair hood was fitted.
Since its restoration 14, 634 miles have been covered and CTM have continued to look after it. The last owner has covered over 4000 miles over the last three years including touring around Europe.
Wearing wonderfully seventies Wolfrace wheels, this TR6 really looks the part. The triple Webers and sports exhaust make it sound the part and on the road it drives to match. The uprated engine provides superb performance, the gearbox snicks cleanly between the ratios and the overdrives gives it fantastically long legs for the open road. With uprated suspension and a strengthened chassis, the car feels very taught and together. It is easily one of the best sorted TRs we have driven.
The history folder contains all the bills for the last thirty years including all the details of the restoration. HPI clear.
One of the best TR6s we have seen. We have just been through the car in our workshop and it is ready to go for the next owner with nothing to do other than to enjoy it.
