The Mk3 Zephyr and Zodiac were produced between 1962 and 1966 with all new styling by Canadian Roy Brown who had also penned the Cortina. The Zephyr models, 4 and 6 looked similar to the Zodiac but the bodies differed substantially with different rear doors and pillars. The Zephyr 6 has become quite rare – it sold in smaller numbers perhaps as it was priced too closely to the up-market Zephyr when it was new.
This car is a very 1962 Zephyr 6 manual in Ermine White. We bought it with two other classics from a collector who was moving house and losing his storage. It had been off the road for several years but dry-stored and has survived well. The mileage is 78, 000 from new and it has never been welded. We have just carried out a substantial re-commissioning – too much to list here but a long list of jobs and new parts including, top end overhaul with new head gasket, two new front tyres, brake, clutch and brake hydraulics overhaul, new water pump and various cosmetic jobs. It is now on the road and running and driving very well. The body is all original and the paint finish presents well although close up there are various minor imperfections. The interior is in good order and beautifully original.
The car comes with an interesting history file and various bills and old Mot’s back to the 60’s. It’s beautifully preserved and ready to use – we have carried out some test miles and it’s running and driving sweetly although gentle use will be required initially as it’s covered only a few hundred miles in the last 20 years. The valuable reg number 602 PTO stays with the car and is fully transferable.
