This beautiful 1923 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost was manufactured at the Rolls Royce US factory in Springfield Massachusetts. A Mr Lashar purchased the car on 28th September 1923 and the car originally had a Mayfair Town Car body by Holbrook. He owned the car for the next 6 years before selling the car to a Mr August Sauer of Great Barrington in Massachusetts. Mr Sauer wanted a far more sporting body and in March 1931 a Rolls Royce Custom Coach Works “Piccadilly Roadster” body (1 of 79) was fitted. This body has remained on the car ever since.
Over the years, the car worked its way down the East coast of the US, via Capt. (later Rear Admiral) J. K. Leydon of Lahaska Pennsylvania and Dr Clyde D. Marlow of Macon Georgia (1969), to Florida where the weather better suited its clothes. In Florida it was owned by Mark Sheppard (1971) and H Edward White (1978) both of St Peterburg, and who were both enthusiastic members of the Rolls Royce Owners Club in America. The car was brought over to the UK in July 1988 by Terence RS Stone who saw the car perform in the 1973 Alpine Rally. It was bought by its current owner in August 2010.
The car has led a very active life and has enjoyed a number of awards in the US and has been actively campaigned over the years in a wide range of events. Whilst in US ownership it was brought over to Europe for two Alpine Rallies and completed another two during Mr Stone’s ownership in 1993 and 2003. The Alpine Trail of 2013 makes it its 5th Alpine Event. In addition it has participated in number of other major events including the Lakes and Scottish Tour, The 1998 Euro Rally in Spain, a rally in Jordan in 1999 (where it performed in desert conditions of 120 degs F), the 2007 Silver Ghost Centenary Scottish Tour and the 50th Anniversary Event of the RREC at Kelmarsh Hall.
The car was prepared by P&A Wood for the 2013 Alpine Trial which it completed without any issues. Now located in Suffolk, and still in fantastic useable condition and receives regular use.
