The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is a traditionalist Ferrari at heart. Just two seats, a rear mounted transmission and a naturally aspirated V12 engine in the nose.
Upon its release at the 2012 Geneva motor show, in terms of just bald acceleration and around the famous Fiorano handling circuit it was billed the fastest road-going Ferrari ever produced.
For its class of car, however, its usability is unprecedented. For instance, it’s DCT transmission is smooth and forgiving at slow speeds and to stop you from making a very expensive mistake the F12 is fitted with a front lift system as standard and its clearance is superb.
Business as usual thanks to its front, rear sensors and reverse camera. Navigation and a high-power JBL sound system are a few other luxuries great for touring, however that’s not what this prancing horse is about…
The Ferrari F12 is all about its award-winning (2013 International Engine of the Year Winner) Its 200 bar, 6262cc, 65 degree direct-injection V12 mid-mounted front engine as it is perhaps the best powertrain that man has yet devised.
The amount of torque and the way the acceleration ramps at 2000rpm is mind-bending, the soundtrack is like a demonic symphony orchestra on the move and there isn’t a turbo or supercharger in sight.
Rear-wheel drive… of course, and the two-foot-wide rubber contact patches have to wrangle 730 hp and gain traction to achieve 0 – 100km/ h in just 3. 1 seconds and 200km/ h in 8. 5 seconds which the F12 does with out-and-out ballistic elegance.
