I REALLY do love this 1955 MG TF. She was one of the very last built and, surprisingly enough, she is a genuine UK example. Just over 10, 000 TFs were built of which 95 per cent were exported! This old girl is a genuine black car from new and a genuine UK RHD car from new as denoted by her chassis number of HDA16/ 9418. The HD stands for MG 20 seater with TF, the "A" stands for Black and the number 1 stands for UK RHD build. The number 9418 is her build number. The very last TF built in March 1855 was numbered 10, 100 - a mere 682 cars adrift from mine. Production of the TF ceased in March and mine was registered on March 10!
Her last owner kept her for 40 years and the V5 states just one previous owner. She will have been a 1500cc model at new but has been fitted with the famous 1250 XPAG engine for as long as anyone appears to be able to remember. The first 6, 200 TFs all came with the 1250cc engine in any case. The supplying dealer's plaque on the dash is Mill Garage (Note the MG initials). They were MG specialists situated in Chigwell Road, E18 as stated on the plaque.
This lovely old MG really does warrant the often over used word "patina." Her body work is in super condition and the paint finish is pretty damned good too without attempting to come across as some untouchable show stopper. Rather a very pretty, head turner of a 1950s MG. The wire wheels set her off nicely. The original red leather has that "just nicely worn" look which cannot be replicated. She also has a hood and full length tonneau - both in good nick and both red to match the leather. Her speedo reads 50k miles and there is an old MoT in the file showing 41, 000 40 years ago!
All in all, a little gem of an MG and very probably one of the last "T series" still on the road having been built in the final month of production when the TF was axed in favour of the new MGA.
