The METRO, internal code name «ADO88», was the first British Leyland car to be built by robots in the renovated and expanded Longbridge plant.
It was launched on October 8, 1980 and was intended to be the replacement for the hyper successful MINI. Compact on the outside, the mini METRO offered excellent interior space. It was advertised as a low consumption and maintenance cost city car.
Available in "Normal", "L", "HLE" and "S" versions, with a 998cc engine in the first three and 1275cc in the "S".
The METRO was produced from 1980 to 1998, and until 1990 it used the designations Austin Metro and MG Metro and after 1990 as Rover Metro and Rover 100, on a grand total of 2, 078, 218 units.
The mini METRO is now a classic respected by countless collectors around the world.
