Here we have the chance of experience the pièce de résistance of the xm range; The 3. 0 v6 24v exclusive. Finished in crimson red metallic and furnished with full black leather interior. Seats are heated and the front pair are electrically adjustable, as well as the front centre armrest! The 3. 0 v6 pulls well and produces a beautiful soundtrack. Coupled with the 4-speed automatic gearbox, with sport and snow modes. Having been lucky enough to own most combinations of xms, the v6 really is something special and is to be savoured and enjoyed. The effortless nature of this car sums up a what a big citroen should be.
this particular example of one of a batch of the last xms to leave the rennes factory back in may 2000 with production ceasing altogether in june that year. It has been known on and off in citroen club circles over the years. Mileage is currently just under 188, 000. mot valid until mid-august 2021. in daily use at the moment. I used this car to attend the citroen centenary event in 2019 and have never been let down by it. A solid statement from an avid citroen owner!
all four tyres have healthy tread (new in 2019). the hydraulic suspension travels up and down and doesn’t require regular lhm top ups. A previous owner has fitted comfort sphere i believe, as the ride has more “old school” citroen wallow than usual xms. Other than some welding to the sills, this car has not asked for much to get through mots. Issues i am aware of are: The passenger front window is not working, which is most likely to be the regulator cable. The sunroof does not open. Air conditioning does not seem cold. May be low on gas, but i have not investigated this. The speedo has a habit of dropping in and out at times, for no obvious reason every few weeks. The cruise control does not activate. It could be a vacuum hose leak as i have had this on previous xms and xantias. The car has a longlife stainless steel exhaust system fitted which produces a lovely roar when ‘on song’. both dot matrix displays work as well, a common weak point on these.
a lot of the niggles above could be rectified easily wit. A bit of time. Alas time is not something i have much of to spare wit. A cx and bx on the road as well. None of the above items have stopped me from jumping in the car and enjoying it, so have not been high on the priority list.
as wit. A lot of metallic paints of this age, this car does suffer with lacquer peel is certain areas. Mostly the rear spoiler and front scuttle/ windscreen panel. A previous owner has painted some areas of this and the match isn’t great. The front nose cone has various stonechips, no doubt acquired in the past whilst passing less significant cars! Overall, the car is presentable when clean, but will not be winning any show rosettes in its current condition.
there’s no shying away that this car is in need of some love, but it isn’t on offer for £10, 000, nor even £1, 000 so i believe the asking price to be both reasonable and realistic. The car is not without fault, but i have been happily using it as is and would happily continue to, if not for other cars.
