The Triumph TR4 is arguably the archetypal ‘hairy chested’ British sports car. Introduced primarily to increase Triumph’s success in the US market, over 71, 000 were produced over a six year period.
Mechanically, it shares much with the earlier TR3, but a major change to the TR4 came in the form of the body styled by Giovanni Michelotti. Though it caused some controversy upon its release it replaced the previous swoopy shapes for a much squarer look the TR4’s looks have aged very gracefully, with details like the headlamps set inboard of the wings giving it a distinctive face.
Produced between 1965 and 1968, the Triumph TR4A was a retooled version of the TR4, featuring most notably, a newer and more modern chassis, with “IRS” models also fitted with independent rear suspension. The new suspension configuration demonstrated itself fairly decisively in 1966 with Triumph taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in class in the 12 hours of Sebring.
This TR4A is a true survivor quality car and one of the last ones built. It is has all of the original steel sheet metal and has had one respray in the original color. This is a never crashed and never rusted survivor example. It is believed to be a three owner with the last owner having purchased it over 10 years ago. The Panasport alloy wheels & tires have less than one thousand miles and the stainless steel exhaust system is a recent replacement. The car has the optional Indepent Rear Suspension which is a very desirable option. We really believe this Triumph TR4A is not only great looking British sports car but one of the best values for the money in the collector car market.
