1973 Triumph Spitfire Convertible For Sale
The Triumph Spitfire is a front engined, rear wheel drive, two passenger sports car that was produced from 1962-1980. Over the 18 year run there were 315, 000 Spitfires produced. These vehicles were developed on a shortened variant of the Triumph Herald sedan and also had the Herald's running gear and standard SC engine. The design also used a body on frame construction. These vehicles were popular in the street and rally races. The Spitfire won many SCCA National Sports Car Championships in F and G Production classes; won its class at the 1964 Tour de France rally, coming in second overall, and won the 1964 Geneva Rally. In 1965, a Spitfire won its class in the Alpine Rally. The Spitfire nameplate refers to the WW2 fighter plane. The last Triumph Spitfire was never sold to the public and remains on display at the British Motor Museum.
1973 Triumph Spitfire Convertible. This Spitfire comes with a 1500cc engine with a four speed manual transmission. The transmission also comes with the optional overdrive. Carburetor has been upgraded to a weber. We do think that this engine has an upgraded camshaft. This vehicle does run and drive. Exhaust has been changed to an aftermarket Monza system. Has disc brakes on the front and drums on the rear. Previous owner had a good amount of work done to the vehicle. Suspension redone, brakes gone through, new battery, etc. Comes with receipts. All four wheels were converted to wires. Has manual windows which roll up and down without any issues. Previous owner purchased a new radiator for cosmetic reasons; the car stays at the right temperature.
The interior is complete and in decent shape. There is a new carpet kit that comes with the vehicle. The dash is in good shape with no cracks or chips. Convertible top is fairly new and also comes with the cover. All of the gauges are working. Has an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. Has an aftermarket radio. The steering wheel has been changed to a nice Moto-Lita wheel. The glass is all there and in good shape. California car and currently registered until December 2021.
