Beschreibung

This Humber Sceptre is in fabulous order. It was a luxury sports car in the 1960s when it was launched - everybody wanted one but they were expensive. It certainly caught the eye of many enthusiasts at the Earls Court motor show when they were first revealed.
This particular one is one of the first Humber Sceptres ever produced, and is especially rare because the car was modified a year later when the Mark 1A was launched.

Sceptres were marketed as the best of Routes Group's mid-range cars, which explains the similar twin headlights to those found on the Singer Vogue, and was fitted with a more powerful 80 hp version of the 1, 592 cc (97. 1 cu in) Minx engine. Premium accoutrements included front disc brakes, overdrive, a rev counter and full range of instruments, windscreen washers, and a reversing lamp.

When Sceptres were first produced they were only offered with manual gearbox. Hence This car comes with a four-speed manual geasrbox with overdrive, and gives smooth decisive gear changes. The engine in this car is one of the quietest Sceptre engines we've ever had. The car itself has covered only 17, 000 miles from new, so as can be imagined, everything functions just as it should. The condition of the car inside and out, but especially the stunningly-preserved underside all suggest that this mileage is 100% genuine.

The bodywork is outstanding, and the arches in particular are in admirable condition; we can't believe this car hasn't been garaged for the vast majority if not all its life, and there are no signs of the car ever having been welded.
The stylish chromework, in keeping with the rest of the car, is excellent, and perfectly complements the two-tone paintwork, giving the car an upmarket, almost futuristic look for its time.

This Sceptre has at some point been fitted with servo-assisted brakes, which makes braking easier and a lot more reassuring. Ride quality overall is superb; the marvellously maintained interior and the unmarked dashboard and instrument panel are well matched by the deep luxurious seats, and everything matches colour-wise to give a feeling of being back in the early 1960s in a new family sports car. The roof-lining is well-nigh immaculate and the interior light, of course, works faultlessly.

We at Craner Classics honestly believe this to be one of the best preserved Humber Sceptres in the country.
