Description

This car is a series one Rover P6 V8 with a very interesting history. The registration number “KXC” will be familiar to P6 enthusiasts as many of the development and press cars carried this prefix. It was bought new by Sir Leslie O’Brien, governor of the Bank of England, in late 1969. He opened the Earl’s Court motor-show in October of that year so it’s likely that the factory were involved in hastily providing a car for such a high profile customer. It has had just four owners from new, the first two were Sir Leslie and Lady O’Brien and the third was their Met police protection officer who was left the car when Lady O’Brien died.

We have just carried out some re-commissioning - fitted a new radiator, battery, middle section of exhaust, oil and filter change and various cosmetic jobs. We have also fitted a fully reconditioned automatic gearbox, supplied by “ Borg Warner specialists”.

The structure and underside are rock solid and as far as we can see it is completely original and has never been welded. Lifting up the carpets reveals original floors in factory order. The upper body is also in excellent order. The interior is in reasonable if a little worn condition. Everything is working including the clock, reversing lights and fuel reserve switch.

There are various improvements that could be made to bring this car up to A1 condition and the paintwork is “presentable” but not perfect with various imperfections but no scabbing or bubbling.

Best described as a good useable example with an excellent structure - an early V8 with an interesting history for the same price as a Morris Minor!
