Description
ROVER P6 3500 V8 AUTOMATIC – 1972 A great British classic, carefully preserved for more than fifty years Price: 13. 900 € I am offering for sale this elegant Rover P6 3500 V8 with automatic gearbox, left-hand drive, first registered in December 1972 in Monaco. The Rover P6 was one of the most innovative British saloons of its era, going so far as to receive the very first European Car of the Year title in 1964. Its particularly original design, with its monocoque structure clad in bolt-on body panels, its De Dion tube rear suspension and its four disc brakes, showed a technical ambition that was rare at the time. In 3500 form it benefits from the famous 3. 5-litre Rover V8 with carburettors, particularly smooth and quiet, here paired with a three-speed Borg-Warner automatic gearbox and power steering. A particularly interesting history. This car has had only three owners since first registration. Supplied new in Monaco, it then belonged to an owner based in the Aix-en-Provence area, before I acquired it eleven years ago. It has always been garaged and has received regular, documented servicing. The odometer reads approximately 31, 000 km, and I estimate its true mileage at 131, 000 km. This is not formally certified, but is entirely consistent with its overall condition. The bodywork, in an elegant period blue (Scarab Blue, original colour confirmed by the factory data plate still in place), looks very good and retains all its gloss. The paint is probably original and retains a very good shine. The interior is one of the highlights of this Rover. The beige leather upholstery has been completely redone in keeping with the original finish. The period carpets, Wilton type, are in remarkable condition with no notable wear. The door trims, woodwork and instrumentation have also retained a very good presentation. The dash top is trimmed in leather matching the seats, in a finish offered by Rover dealers at the time. Overall, a warm and refined cabin, whose condition reflects the care given to this car. The car also retains its external spare wheel, mounted on the rear boot and protected by its vinyl cover, a characteristic detail of P6s so equipped. The whole has the charm and refinement typical of large British saloons of the 1970s. A carefully maintained mechanical specification. The V8 engine has notably had its camshaft replaced, as it showed signs of wear. Since then, oil pressure has been excellent. The engine runs quietly and its temperature remains perfectly stable, with no tendency to overheat. The car has just had a fresh service including an oil change and oil filter replacement. A presentation faithful to the original spirit. The car retains its original specification, with one cosmetic exception: a previous owner replaced the second series grille with the aluminium grille of the first series, whose design is generally considered more elegant. This modification is entirely reversible, as the original second series grille will be supplied with the car. Particularly careful preservation. The engine bay retains its period presentation, with its equipment and several factory labels still in place. The boot, with its black trim, is also very well preserved. All the insulation is in perfect condition. The underbody is perfectly uniform, free from corrosion or evidence of accident damage. The rear axle notably retains its original De Dion tube layout. This car has not undergone a full restoration: it has been preserved and maintained over the years, which today is one of its main attractions. An engaging collector's car. This Rover P6 3500 is in very good preserved condition, without pretensions to concours standard. Less common in France than contemporary Jaguars or Triumphs, it offers a particularly appealing combination of technical originality, comfort, refinement and driving enjoyment (power, torque, roadholding). An authentic British classic, carefully preserved and maintained, suited to an enthusiast wishing to fully enjoy a collector's car. Asking price: 13. 900 € Car viewable by appointment.
