QUINTESSENTIAL PRODUCTION CAFE RACER
RARE DUCATI DESMO 500 TWIN SPORT
Designer FABIO TAGLIONI
Chief designer and technical director of Ducati 1954-1989. Taglioni designed the DESMODROMIC TWIN that until only recently was still used in Ducati Twin engines
This is a most beautiful motorcycle designed and manufactured in homage to the English Cafe Racers of the 1950s and 60s
There are a number of articles which relate to the Desmo 500 and 350 and unfortunately those articles have suffered with the regurgitation of misinformation, as it states that the 350 and 500 Desmo Sports were not successful. How anyone could look at this motorcycle and say it was unsuccessful beggars belief. The fact of the matter is that they sold in low numbers and hence why they are rare it is because they were very costly to produce. Beautifully designed and engineered, and the best parts were used in the construction of the motorcycle, but this of course came at a price at the same time as the Japanese were flooding the country with cheap imports.
High quality racing components were used in its manufacturer so the motorcycle was costly or even expensive especially compared to Japanese motorcycles, and consequently few models were sold. Ducati were producing engineering art in opposition to the Japanese manufacturers at this time, who were instead producing budget motorcycles within strict budget parameters in order to attack the
USA, British and European markets.
The Ducati Desmo Sport is a stunning and very capable motorcycle and the low sales were only due to Japanese cheap imports, the fact of the matter is that Ducati survived because of the bikes they were producing and have grown into the company they are today by keeping to their ethos and principles of high quality motorcycles that are not only wonderful to ride but are also of course highly competitive on the world stage. The differences are stark when comparing for example the Ducati to the Suzuki 500. The 500 Desmo Sport at this time was also considered too sporty or speed focused for some especially so with its single seat.
His quality parts include - Borrani Cast Alloy Wheels, Full Brembo Braking System = Front Discs and Callipers, Rear Disc and Calliper, Veglia Competition Rev Counter, Tommaselli Daytona Throttle, Marzocchi Rear Shocks (3-way adjustable), Paioli Telescopic Forks
Engine is free, and is without any unpleasant or nasty noises and good compression is also evident.
The motorcycle is a design masterpiece and even the graphics underline its genius. It would be a wonderful and highly satisfying project for someone capable of resorting this motorcycle, not least because it so aesthetically beautiful and the ultimate and quintessential Cafe Racer
