What can I say? The quintessential British sports car, a 1967 RHD Series 1. 5 4. 2 litre E-Type Jaguar 2 seat Fixed Head Coupe at a bargain price!
This E-Type was delivered to Sydney, Australia in late 1967 and not imported into the UK until 2015, where it spent time in dry storage before being bought by me in early 2020 and put back on the road. It is likely never to has seen rain!
The FHC body is completely original; never having replacement panels, apart from having wider metal wheel arches to accommodate its wider Borani chrome spoke wheels. This E-Type therefore, has a more purposeful stance and is in overall great condition save for some minor bubbles on a couple of wheel arch tops. The Denim metallic blue coachwork is passable, but does have minor age-re-related scratches and it’s likely the car has not seen a respray since the 1970s, so what you see is what you get, with no hidden filler Etc.
Mechanically this FHC is in great condition and is all matching numbers i. e. engine, head, gearbox and body/ chassis numbers. Carburation is via three twin-choke Delortos and once thoroughly warmed up, drives well with no unusual clonks or rattles. Indeed my personal motor engineer gave the car a recent service, including radiator flush, oil, filters and carb clean. The brakes are original Dunlop items and have also been serviced with new seals. There is a new radiator expansion tank and its original Radiomobile 8-track (yes, 8-track) radio/ cartridge player has been serviced, is in perfect working condition (tunes into Radio Luxemburg!) and has the benefit of being fitted with a blutooth connection for listening to more modern music. However, this E-Type is a joy to drive while swooping over and around the hills while listening to Dusty Springfield or The Walker Brothers.
The car has a dark blue leather interior in good shape with no holes or splits. All switches and gauges work, apart from the speedometer which has a tendency to zoom around and around as fast as the road wheels! Recorded mileage is 88, 000.
Chrome work is passable, but would greatly benefit from re-chroming and most of the rubber seals have perished due to the heat of the Australian sunshine. The interior however, shows no signs of fading and looks and smells absolutely right in its dark blue leather, and it’s probably ture to say that nothing smells as good as an old Jag.
This 1967 E-Type FHC is in unbelievably solid condition with no rust (save for those two wheel arch tops) and absolutely no rot. Find another unrestored E-Type in such great condition outside of the Southern Californian desert or, in this case, hot climate found in Australia.
The car boasts partial history back to 1967 and comes complete with a Jaguar Certificate of Authenticity, including several bills and receipts relating to its’ previous history “down under”, plus receipts illustrating more recent servicing. (YHR 744E) is a solid, charming E-Type Jaguar, which has never been subject to a restoration, apart from a respray in Denim metallic blue sometime in the 1970s and is something which can “be taken to the next level”, as the Americans say, with little effort or simply enjoyed as a good driving machine.
Only reason for a very reluctant sale, is that my classic collection needs thinning down and as I already has a barn-find Series 2 E-Type Roadster under restoration, this most charming example of the marque has to be sold.
