My father’s MGA Twin Cam roadster, is an original UK right hand drive example, which was purchased new in 1959. The car is finished in its original colour specification; old English white, with a red interior and a black hood. It is a matching numbers example, which is very well-known car within Twin Cam circles. The accompanying Heritage Certificate confirms the following:
- Chassis number – Y011979
- Engine number – 16GB/ U/ 1645
The car is complemented with a meticulous history file, with numerous club magazine features, countless invoices and even the cars original green replacement buff logbook. The speedometer indicates that the car has covered 25, 602 miles from new and this may potentially be correct.
In its lifetime, NCL 542 has been restored twice; it was originally restored between 1978 and 1981 by Simon Robinson, before the car was sent to Classic Restorations between 2012 and 2014 at the cost of £21, 413. 51. Subsequently, the car is structurally perfect and its re-spray looks excellent.
Mechanically, the car runs perfectly and doesn’t skip a beat. This is no surprise following recent attention to the timing of the Twin Cam engine (carried out by the previous owner) and consistent servicing. This twin cam also benefits from an uprated fan, which is perfect for cooling the engine on a hot summers day.
This very car also featured on the Antiques Road Trip with Charles Hanson and James Braxton, which is a cool piece of recent provenance (if you’re a fan of the show!).
The Twin Cam roadster is one of only 211 home market right hand drive car, which is becoming increasingly rarer (and no doubt, a shrewd investment). We know that we are unlikely to ever find a twin cam as good as this one again, but are selling due to a need for space.
