Motodrome offer this lovely 1965 example of the ever-popular Land Rover Series IIa, this one a mid-period petrol narrow-headlight model 88in soft top, finished in Mid Grey, which makes a refreshing change from Bronze Green or Marine Blue. We think it’s the original colour.

Fitted with: Galvanised chassis and bulkhead, freewheel front hubs and towpack, and inside it has 3 new Exmoor Trim deluxe seats, and round Smiths heater. It also has a brake servo and alternator conversion.

It’s fitted with a period-correct, rebuilt, 252-prefix 2. 25 petrol engine, and retains it’s original 1965 features including sprung steering wheel, twin wiper motors, flush headlamps and deep sill covers.

Odometer reading under 2000m, which is clearly incorrect so to avoid any misunderstandings it’ll be sold as ‘mileage known incorrect’

We have a really nice history for this one. Supplied new in Feb 1965to a Mr Patrick Child of Wimbledon, and it seems he kept it until 1989, when it moved to the Isle of Wight. It changed hands again in 2007 and again in 2011, when the last owner acquired it as a somewhat down-at-heel Series, crying out for a rebuild. V5 only shows 3 previous owners – highly unusual for a 56 year old Series.
He then set about a restoration that took 10 years to complete, and it was finished and ready for the road in March 2021.
The restoration included:
• 2012 - original bulkhead removed and sent to Ashtree Ltd for repair and galvanising
• 2013 – build up started around a new Richards galvanised chassis , with new running gear including swivels, UJ’s, shocks. New wiring harness installed
• 2014 – engine rebuilt with new mains, shells, gaskets etc, and gearbox refurbished
• 2015 – body panels resprayed having been previously dismantled.
• 2016 – new seats etc
• 2017-20 – reassembly continued, recon wiper motors, new front springs, new hood
• 2021 – finally finished and fully checked over by local garage to MOT standard

We have a huge sheaf of bills, old MOT’s back to 1969, old registration documents, and a couple of bits of nice promo material with it – an original 1965 sales catalogue, and a 1965 optional equipment pamphlet.

I doubt you’ll find a nicer one without spending far more, and the galvanised chassis and bulkhead are a real bonus.

On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions.
