Beschreibung
The first “Superbike”, the Honda CB750 arrived in June 1969. It was described at launch by journalists as a masterpiece and the most sophisticated production bike ever so it’s not surprising that early models have become valuable with the first “sandcast” bikes seen at £30k or more. The K1 version was launched in September 1970 with various minor changes including a redesigned air-box and side panels and three new colour schemes. These bikes are something of a sweet-spot as they retain the character and looks of the first model for a more modest outlay.
This bike is a CB750 K1 in Candy Ruby Red. It was built in December 1970 and first registered in the States in January 1971. Imported into the UK in 2007, it was treated to a comprehensive restoration in 2008 with more than £7k spent on parts alone. The mileage reading is 16, 000 and it presents in simply outstanding condition and as you can see from the photos, has a very high level of originality. It’s fitted with engine bars, “Dynatek” electronic ignition and a braided front brake hose which could all be removed if a future owner is particular about exact specification. Most importantly, it runs and rides as well as it looks with a sweet engine note. It has covered few miles in the last two years but we have just carried out some detailing, re-commissioning and a few test miles. As an older restoration, this is not quite a “concours” bike but it is excellent and certain to draw a huge amount of attention at any meet or show.
