Description
1984 Austin Mini 1293 cc Fast Road Car. This mini has been built to a very high specification and as a result offers a fast and effect mini which is also in show condition. The shell has been restored properly and fully waxoiled and looks great today 12 years after being completed. It is finished in Old English White which is a lovely cream colour but can look commercial white in the pictures. Both subframes where acid dipped, seam welded and then painted. The suspension has Hi Lows front and rear and adjustable lowered dampers. The brakes are 8. 4 inch discs at the front and use Mintex pads, Minifins at the rear, braided hoses and a brake proportioning valve on the front bulkhead. The wheels are 6x12 Rose Petals on 165/ 50 12 Yokohama tyres. The engine was built by Rob Walker Engineering and is a 1293 cc with an 11 stud performance cylinder head with 37. 2 mm inlet and 31 mm exhaust valves. The engine was built with a duplex timing chain, wedged and cross drilled nutrided balanced crank, centre main bearing strap, Hepolite pistons, rings, con rods. High capacity water pump, Aldon performance distributor, high output coil, twin SU HS4 1. 5 inch carbs, modified caste alloy inlet manifold. Facet silver top fuel pump, twin fuel tanks, Mini Spares high performance 2 core radiator with switchable electric fan.
The interior is made up of black sports front seats and matching rear seat, period switch gear, steering wheel and clocks. Including special event timing stop watch and clocks recently fitted costing £700. 00. Heated front screen and quick shift gear change.
The end result is a brilliantly engineered mini which is well mannered for town driving and free revving and responsive when the road allows. It feels very usable and is geared to allow for motorway use.
The original car prior to any work starting had covered 46000 miles. The car in its current form has covered just 6200 miles in the last 12 years. The period number plate is included. The underside was steam / chemically cleaned and fully protected by Rustbuster in May 2019 costing £1400. This protects the entire underside including suspension parts and subframes. They use a flexible waxoil product which is strong and protective but is flexible so will not crack or peal unlike under seal. It looks very clean and professional and gives complete piece of mind. The mini was featured in Mini World magazine with a 3 page colour feature which is in the history file. In my view this is the ultimate mini with 60’s styling but more modern engineering, comfort and drivability.
