The car has passed it’s MOT today with flying colours and no advisories.
This is an excellent example of a 1987 Mk1b MR2 with only 67k miles on the clock.
It has an immaculate blue cloth interior, which is completely original with the exception of a Sony stereo which enables the flawless transmission of Bluetooth for phone calls and music streaming from your phone.
I bought the car as a lockdown project in April 2021. During this time it has had £2, 500 spent to get it into the condition you see in the photos. This has involved the following:
- Refurbished alloys and balancing, tracking
- Replacement steering column (supplied by Neil Jones)
- New rear tie bars (brand new, rare Toyota parts)
- Welding to the floor / sill / rear arch on the drivers' side
- Paint restoration with new stripes and decals supplied by Neil Jones
- Various engine items: water temp sensor, radiator fill cap
- Refurbished rear brake calipers
- New wipers and refurbished spoiler
- Gear knob gaiter and plate
- Full service
The exterior bodywork of the car is very clean and honest but not perfect. The car is kept under cover but used 2-3 times a week in the summer. As such, there are minor flaws in the paintwork from stone chips. Underneath it is in good solid condition.
The original teardrop wheels are perfect, with Bridgestone tyres. There is plenty of tread left on them.
The interior is the star of the show, with unmarked blue velour seats that look and feel like new. The wheel, rare blue leather gearknob, handbrake door cards and dash soft fabrics and plastics are in superb condition. Everything electrical works: lights, interior lights, switches etc. Sometimes the aerial sticks so I have reduced the price accordingly.
The other star of the show is the engine, clutch and gearbox. As you would expect of a 67k miles car, the engine pulls like new and the gearbox is slick and precise with no vibration/ jumping out in 5th gear. The car starts first time, idles consistently at 800rpm and races up to the redline in all gears.
The car benefits from an insurance approved immobiliser for which I have both fobs and paperwork. It also has a spare wheel and original jack and toolkit. It has original booklet, wallet, manual and both keys present.
As a member of the MR2 Drivers Club, this car is known to members and received positive comments on its condition at the annual Hatton show.
