Built with Jaguar's written permission, the Aristocat uses all Jaguar components housed in a steel spaceframe chassis. For ease of build the Aristocat uses the XJ series suspension, un-modified, resulting in the car being five inches wider than the XK120 or XK140, but only one inch wider than the XK150. The additional width, added down the centre of the car, allows for a more spacious cockpit and boot than the originals and drivers of well over six feet can be easily accommodated.
Finished in Opalescent Green with a gold fleck and contrasting biscuit leather interior, and sitting on wire wheels with an automatic gearbox and power steering, this example was purchased in kit form from Autotune Aristocat in the late 80s and finished in the early 2000s. Built by two engineers, a considerable amount of time was spent improving the kit including re-working the doors, bonnet and boot for a much better fit and also improving the wiring in order to be more reliable and fitting Dual Servo brakes for better braking. The rear axle was also completely rebuilt.
An extensive build file is with the car. Including original Aristocat invoices, build sheets, build photographs, specifications list and history of the donor car, which was a 1968 Jaguar 420, chosen as it came under "Historic status" and allowed a more "Jaguar XK" period number plate. All ancillaries were used from this car; however, the engine is a period correct 3. 4 litre from an XJ6 which also provided the power steering and automatic gearbox. The seats have full working recline, lumber, height and sliding adjustment. Many "correct" XK120 features include split windscreen, four spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel, period correct bonnet badge and also correct slim bumpers. Owned for 15 years, this car has taken art in various European trips, classic car rallies and has been a regular entrant at various classic car shows. The car has been described as incredibly reliable and regularly serviced by the owner. The Aristocat marque has shown itself to be a well-designed vehicle and attracts a worldwide following. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document XSV852, it surely deserves a closer look.
