Description
This Jaguar XJR-S ‘Guy Salmon Edition’ is a rare and imposing performance-focused grand tourer.
It is powered by a 6. 0-litre V12, sending around 330bhp to rear-wheels drive via a three-speed automatic transmission.
This original right-hand drive UK-supplied car was first registered in May 1991 and sold through Guy Salmon Jaguar in Ditton Thames.
Having been in storage for around 10 years, it was recently subjected to a comprehensive recommissioning process that has cost in excess of £10, 000, and has just received a fresh advisory-free MOT certificate.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
The XJR-S was produced by JaguarSport, a dedicated high-performance business owned jointly between Jaguar and the Tom Walkinshaw Racing Group.
As a post-1990 XJR-S, this car is fitted with the bespoke 6. 0-litre V12, featuring Zytek fuel injection, a new forged steel crankshaft, forged alloy pistons, modified air intake, and a dual exhaust system. This engine was unique to the XJR-S and boasted a power output of around 330bhp, which enabled a top speed of 160mph.
Furthermore, the three-speed GM400 automatic transmission used a recalibrated valve body and benefitted from faster shift times.
Its body was enhanced by a deeper front bumper, side skirts, and a spoiler on the boot lid.
The suspension was uprated to a custom set-up using modified coil springs and Bilstein shock absorbers, the headlights were framed in black rather than chrome, and the rear light lenses were darkened.
As a rare ‘Guy Salmon Edition’, this example wears a different boot spoiler, the American-specification twin-headlamps, and an XJ6-style colour-coded grille.
It is finished in Jet Black, over a Magnolia leather-trimmed interior with black piping and elegant wood trim on the dashboard, centre console, gear knob, and door cards.
It rides on ‘Borbet A’ black five-spoke alloy wheels, which have been freshly diamond cut and fitted with new Goodyear tyres. These wheels were reportedly a dealer-fit upgrade, and a popular choice on the XJR-S and Janspeed cars in period.
Equipment includes electrically adjustable and heated seats, cruise control, a cigarette lighter, and a trip computer.
An aftermarket Pioneer stereo has also been installed.
Accompanying the vehicle will be its original owner’s manuals and service book, along with a Production Record Trace Certificate from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, and a collection of maintenance invoices along with a large folder of service history and a fully stamped original service book
CONDITION
We purchased the vehicle around 18 months ago after being garage stored for a number of years and purchased the vehicle due to the fact that it was corrosion and rot free which is extremely rare for one of these! the drivers side lower wing had a new piece fabricated and that was it! The car was then stopped completely of all trim and sent to the bodyshop for a professional repaint.
The optional Borbet alloy wheels have been re diamond cut and four new dunlop tyres fitted.
SERVICE HISTORY
Earlier in 2022, it was subjected to a comprehensive recommissioning process with North Yorkshire Classic, where technicians replaced the brake discs, brake callipers, flexi hoses, tyres, spark plugs, distributor, HT leads, rear differential was overhauled, and a rotor arm, the fuel injection system was fully overhauled with a new fuel rail installed, fresh injectors and a replacement pump and filter. New Bilstein shock absorbers were installed, along with a new stainless steel exhaust centre and back boxes. A new lucas injection eco was also fitted
The car was stripped and given a glass-out repaint, as well as a Waxoyl coating on the underside.
SUMMARY
This Jaguar XJR-S is a rare sporting grand tourer, made even more unique by its ‘Guy Salmon Edition’ dealer-applied boot spoiler, the American-specification twin-headlamps and XJ6-style colour-coded grille. Now fresh from a comprehensive recommissioning earlier in 2022, it would make a fine addition to any collection of sought-after British modern classics.
